Today was another amazing day...specifically planned for Poppy as it is Father's Day. We visited, toured, and were part of a special Father's Day luncheon at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California.
I wish I could take credit for planning this part of the trip, but I can't. Craig planned this amazing tour as well! Actually, us girls weren't too excited about this stop BUT we ended up really enjoying ourselves! The library is located on an absolutely beautiful mountaintop with amazing views of the surrounding mountains, valleys and the Pacific Ocean.
The library and museum was more than 100,000 sq. ft. with 24 different galleries. It houses many fascinating artifacts, historical documents and dozens of interactive displays that pay tribute to our 40th President and his accomplishments. It has a full-sized replica of the Oval Office, the National Treasures Gallery, a replica of the White House Rose Garden, one of the first major pieces of the Berlin Wall to be brought out of Germany, and Craig's favorite-the actual Air Force One aircraft which served as the "Flying White House" for President Reagan and six other presidents.
Not only is it home to the Air Force One Tail Number 27000, but we got to tour it and the Marine One Tail Number 150611. The Air Force One carried Ronald Reagan to 26 countries and 46 states covering more that 660,000 miles.
We loved that President Reagan was a jellybean lover (the black ones are his favorite). A jellybean portrait was even created of his image.
The tour included an amazing buffet lunch with baked chicken, roast beef, coleslaw, baked beans, mac & cheese, bread, cookies and brownies. It was all delicious!
We concluded the tour after seeing President Reagan's Memorial Site and tribute to the first lady.
Poppy thoroughly enjoyed his day at the Presidential Library- and don't tell him...but we did too!! ;0)
Before heading to the hotel in Anaheim, we made a detour in Hawthorne, California. Why? To make a quick visit to some sweet friends stationed at the Los Angeles Air Force base. Rachael Sosebee Clark and I have been friends for many years. She, her husband Noah, and sweet baby girl Hannah have been stationed here for the past 2 years. We stopped by their house and then went for ice cream. They live super close to downtown Manhattan Beach and have all kind of cute shops. Even though it was a quick visit, we loved every minute! It was so nice to hug their necks and see how big Hannah has gotten.
What a great day!! Keep praying for Craig...he's still not feeling the greatest. I think he's going to check out the Minute Clinic in the morning if this NyQuil doesn't do the trick.
Until tomorrow...
